Pope Leo XIII Silver Medalion (Larger than a silver dollar!)

Pope Leo XIII Medalion. Was issued to some unknow person in the 1880's by the Pope himself, or so says "Mark Parker" from Western and Eastern Treasure magazine. I had submitted some photos to him on some finds and he sent me a letter back about all of the things that I had submitted. This photo of Pope Leo was included in the very next issue of the magazine in the "Ask Mark Parker" column. I was amazed! Here is a link to that site. http://www.treasurenet.com/westeast/

Recent Finds

Sometimes I wonder who the people are that have lost some of these things that I have found.

Pope Leo XIII Reverse

Text on reverse of Medallion reads " Bene Merenti" meaning "To the Well Deserving".

You just never can tell what you might find when out metal detecting, I imagine, from the image above, that just about anything and everything that can be lost has been lost at some time or another, and if its metal, someone is likely to find it someday.

The image below, which is a Longest Run Medal Won by F.R.Welch in 1920!

I did find some information about this Medal on the American Trapshooting Associations web page. Its an unusual piece and has a value of about $300!

I actually found this medal in an empty lot in a small town in South Dakota, and later was quite amazed to find it on th ATA website and that it is worth $200 to $300! Amazing!

AMERICAN TRAPSHOOTING ASSOCIATION

This is a long run trophy awarded by the old American Trapshooting Association in 1920. Hard to find, the value is about $200.00 to $300.00. "
